Is it worth painting a house for sale?

Hello

We are either going to sell or rent out our flat. The paint and woodwork are very tired. We are wondering whether it's worth getting it redecorated before sale in terms of securing a buyer and recouping costs. Ditto getting the front wooden windows replaced.

Thanks for any views!

Yes. I looked at two very similar houses within two streets of each other. One had torn wallpaper and needed redecorating top to bottom. One was nicely decorated, although not to my taste, and just wanted a different colour on the walls, the woodwork and ceilings were fine.
Guess which one I bought?

We did. Was done for super-cheap quote we got. Would not have been very impressed if we were staying there as wasn't done very well imo. (I'm fussy.) But first impression was that it looked a lot lighter and brighter afterwards and it did sell quickly. (Were in middle of sticky hands up walls everywhere stage.)

Yes, do it. We painted and put in new carpets as the old ones were threadbare, looked like a new house and sold in a day.
