South Oxon-Oak timber replacement-help needed.

I don't know whether anyone can help me with this. We live in a grade two listed property and some of the timber frame needs replacing (we have permission to do this). We've obtained a few quotes from local builders and am horrified, several thousand pounds for a few joins/beams. I realise that a lot of conservation oak experts/builders do live in the west country. We were wondering about offering board/meals and a good wage for someone out of the area to come and do the work. We have no way of going about this, any suggestions?
