Kitchen worktops to go with cream doors...advice needed!

Hello...we are installing a new kitchen with cream doors (torn between glass and matt...but that is another story) and I am completely confused over which worktop. I love the look of dark wood (we are considering walnut) but am nervous of the maintenance (I love my bleach!). Granite worktop would be easier to maintain but I can't find a colour that goes? Black feels too much of a contrast and I can't find any dark brown granite that doesn't have that mottled effect. I don't really want light coloured surfaces...any suggestions? Thanks!

I have black granite and Iroko wood top in my (cream coloured) kitchen. The wood is a pain to maintain -and I never use bleach - though mostly just in the one spot I do most of my prep in. The granite is easy to keep- and that's all around the sink area but it is hard and cold - noise bounces off it whereas the wood worktops are warmer. I honestly don't know what worktops I'd go with if I could replace mine so can't advise you there - both look good but apart from the maintenance the wood looks and feels nicer.

Thanks MillyONaire...now you've got me thinking how I could incorporate both :)

Have you got my kitchen milly? I've got iroko down the run and black granite on the island with cream shaker doors.
The wood has not lasted as well, black rings from cans waiting to go in the recycling and where a tap leaked. The granite looks like new.
I'm moving and having a new kitchen and have chosen a Silestone Quartz for my next kitchen.

Have you considered quartz? The selection of colours is good and its not as mottled as granite.

We ard having a vanilla (cream) shaker style kitchen and have selected ivory fantasy granite which I love. New kitchen being fitted next week, but the samples go together very well (I hope)... Smile

I have a brown/grey Silestone surface with off white doors which looks fab. I think the colour is Gris Expo. It's easy to maintain and comes in loads of colours and finishes.
