Fitted wardrobes

Hello!

I'm after some recommendations for fitted wardrobes (either sliding or doors) but must be good quality with a large choice of interiors.

I've discounted IKEA for now as I have a non-standard width to utilise (2.70m wide!) - I'd like to make the very most of this wall as much as possible- both height and width.

Can anyone recommend a brand or shop I should go to?

Many thanks!

I use a local carpenter who specialises in built-in storage. I initially found him through an ad in the post office window, but he also advertises in local magazines. He's done wardrobes, bookshelves and a whole built-in study (shelves, desk, filing drawers) for me, and is coming back soon to do more stuff in DD's bedroom. I think someone like that can be more flexible and design things more precisely to your space and style requirements than the kind of national wardrobe-system companies.

We used a local company who make bedrooms, studies, etc to order. Look locally

I'm also very interested in this - in North Herts. Currently going through major extension and have designed in lots of in-built wardrobe space.

I'm starting to worry it's going to be a lot more expensive than I'd originally hoped!

Dh has just built one in for us. He priced it first and it was less than buying the ones from B&Q or Homebase and putting those in. But we didn't factor in labour costs so materials only.

Carpenter / cabinet maker would be best

Where in south east?

We had some made by Langstaff Ellis which fitted very well into an awkward shaped room

I think the internal - like pullout storage compartments and draws makes a big difference in useability of a wardrobe. For those who did employed a cabinet maker, did yours put in internal organisation? And if so, which system did you use? Thanks!

I agree with the posters who suggest using a carpenter.

I got a built-in walk-in wardrobe which is from floor to ceiling and space efficient. We designed the interior with his help - hanger sections (different heights for gowns, shirts, coats), drawers on rails (very smooth), shelves, linen section at the top. It was flexible - if I needed the rails raised, he could do it. The only thing were that the drawers were pre-ordered so once ordered, they could not be changed. We chose everything from the door materials (ours is white laminate) and the door handles.

My carpenter is from Basildon, Essex. His is a family business. He is prepared to travel to London, where we are. It would have cost us a fortune from John Lewis but he was much more cost efficient and looked professional still.

We saw a customisable wardrobe from Ikea for £500 (Pax?) that maybe could have fit the bill but the custom-made version we got was so much sturdier and made use of every inch of space which was designed to fit all our stuff down to the number of blankets we had.

I want a built in cupboard on our new playroom, to go around the electric board so will try a carpenter. What materials did everyone use & what finish etc?

Thanks

try hafele.co.uk for internal organisation and Jali.co.uk for cabinets or an independent chippy - Jali are based just outside Canterbury so maybe near enough for you to go visit ?! measure your clothes in height and how much room they take up on the pole to best configure the space you need add 10% pole space for additions !!

I really like these the style from //www.theenglishwardrobecompany.com
The ones with the mirror 'backing' look amazing.

I'll probably need a tradesman to help me measure up and fit it.

My guess is that the Jali ones (250cm length/ run of wardrobes) will be about the £2000+ mark. And the English Wardrobe company more like £5000.

Thanks for the suggestions and I will investigate further!!
