Denied planning permission but built anyway?

They are using 'builders' as in people who are building, but don't seem to be a member of any company or anything (no van). The builders live in a caravan on the drive. Which isn't necessarily a problem as long as all the rules are followed.

report it.

what if it is not built correctly or they mess up plumbing, gas or electric or something?

The Council should take your details to investigate (most don't investigate anonymous complaints) but will not reveal them to anyone.

Report it to both the planning department and Building Control as they are separate. They may not need planning for it but may need Building Regulations or vice versa so you should ask for both departments to investigate it.

I would check whether the Council will keep your details anonymous. We do where I work but I don't think the Council where I live necessarily does.

Are they using a builder? Wouldn't building control need to sign it off? I presume they know they'll never be able to sell the house.
I think I'd talk to them 1st about your concerns.

Definitely report to both planning and building control.

Report it. It sounds awful!! If they have permission then the council will tell you to bugger off, If not they will investigate- nothing lost nothing gained!

Report it to the council for a number of reasons. This could be the start of something bigger that impacts on your home and devalues your property. It could be unsafe. You can contact the council anonymously.

My next door neighbours applied for planning permission for a brick built extension. I didn't oppose it, in fact I was happy they were building one. I quite liked the idea of extra shade tbh.

PP was denied, they appealed. Denied again.

So, they have built some sort of shack attached to the house out of white plastic. They are now installing a kitchen and bathroom in the shack.

It is the ugliest thing you can imagine. It's like some sort of shanty town building attached to the house.

I don't think they would have got building regs approval for it. Surely not? What do I do? Put up and shut up? Or report to the council?
