How much was your complete bathroom refit labour cost?

I've been quoted 3900 & 4700 so far (assuming full tiling, there is reduction for partial tiling) for the labour. Just 7x7 ft bathroom with bath+sink+toilet, nothing extraordinary included. Their cost do include plumbing supplies and extractor fan, LED lights. I only have to supply obvious bathroom units and tiles.

It's much easier to find on the internet about how people manage to do X for very little. I guess no one wants to sound like a mug for paying considerably more than amazing cheap stories on internet.

So, are the quotes normal for London? Or have I been looking at bathroom fitting companies instead of smaller tradesmen? As long as no one is paid minimum wages or less!

We paid 5K in London (included redoing the floor totally, but the cost of having the new floor laid was separate- another 700 to the floor people, argh).
We were quoted 3900, 5K and 6.5K.
It was partial tiling, partial re-plastering, re-siting the loo, sink, extractor fan and radiator, new slightly dropped ceiling with new light, new floor joists, new different sized door and building wall-to-ceiling cupboards. We supplied just abut everything you can see, the builder supplied all the hidden stuff.

When we were buying the flat, Mumsnet told us to expect 3-5K all in, including all the stuff. Ha! You were wrong, Mumsnet! Bathrooms are dear. But I now love our bathroom dearly.

Mine recently cost about £6.5k in labour, but it was a bit more work than usual as it involved stripping some walls right back down to brick and partially rebuilding other stud walls, then plastering/tiling, plus making bath panels and cupboard doors to measure (to match a bought-in bathroom cabinet), replacing skirting boards, replacing the entire waste pipe outside the house etc as well as fitting bath, basin & radiator in new positions.

We have been quoted £6250 plus vat for labour, just outside London in Surrey, for a bathroom 2 m square. Seems extraordinary to me and it was suggested that cost of shower, basin, pump and radiator would be £4000 to £6000. Total cost at least £12000!!!!!

We did say that we did not want top of the range products, just a functioning shower room. A friend has had a similar and one much higher quote from other local bathroom shops.

Well we can't afford to spend that much so now starting again.

FreshorangeforDd, those prices are comic. Carry on looking for sensible recommendations from friends/family/colleagues!

Look for your products separately and price them up. You can get decent Mira or Aqualisa showers for reasonable money, plumbworld and victoriaplumb prices are perfectly reasonable.

We are also planning/pricing up a bathroom with major changes (suite out, replacement larger velux, chipboard floor replacing, splicing into damaged joist below, new flooring, extractor, one stud wall needs replacing, new suite, all pipework being moved, tiling etc etc). Bathrooms are complicated for their size!

Thanks for replies and link. He said that he likes to allow three weeks to complete the works, might be nearer two but allows three. So working on that it's £2000 per week, £400 per day for one or possibly two tradesmen. Thanks for your offer to PM Sandy. We are just going to put it on hold for the time being and reassess what works to have done. Good to hear all your voices of reason as I was horrified by quotes friend was getting, but starting to believe that this is the actual cost.

Last one I had done (replace basic suite with new basic suite in same location) plus some halfway tiling around bath was quote ~£1k and came in a few hundred more with things we hadn't thought of.

That was a few years ago and took about 5 days (but not there all the time)

We're having ours done at the moment and labour costs (including plumbing supplies and all those bits and pieces) was quoted at £3300 (let's hope it doesn't end up being more!). This includes replastering, tiling, installing new lights, moving the bath and toilet, installing extractor fan and underfloor heating etc etc.

We had three quotes and they all came out about the same. We are in south east but not London. It seems like the whole thing will take 2 weeks in total, and often there are two people here working.

Ours came in at 6k all in. We should have just bought all materials ourselves to save a bit of money (you can normally find suites a fair bit cheaper online) but time was against us. It took about two weeks, two guys and then a plasterer, tiler and electrician when needed. They did a good job and it looks good. The cost included lowering the ceiling and completely tiles walls.

£2800 for all labour, first fix and plumbing etc. they would have provided dulux paint and extractor fan for that price too, but I wanted higher spec so got them myself.

I bought all units, cabinets, tiles, grout, panelling etc - anything visible. Bathroom c2.5mx2.5m.


And they were amazing!! The finish is fabulous, and they were so great all the way through. NW London if you want the recommendation. Inc VAT.

I didn't have full tiling everywhere - more like half. I think this does make a big difference to the cost, as does the size of the tile - bigger tiles, less time.

I've just been quoted £1300 to replace a bath with a walk-in shower, removal of tiles and flooring and moving a radiator.

The bathroom cost 5k a few years ago this included reworking of plumbing and new walls too.

Yes, I did numbers and I wouldn't be surprised if my bathroom came to 6K - we don't have time now to wait around for amazing bargains for the mid-range stuff (and some high spec)

blimey. it took our plumber 2-3 days to remove old bath and basin and put in loo bath and basin in different places. so about £600

flooring cost £200 to install - plywood then vinyl

we did the tiling. but it took non experienced dh about a day.

so I could estimate £1k. £2k if they were doing every little thing would be tolerable I guess if you have money you don't know what to do with

Eh I've just had builders in for roughly 15 days to partition a bedroom to create another bedroom...double plasterboarded, plastered, paint both bedroom, rip out & install new bathroom (tiled floor, 3/4 tiled walls around shower, halfway tiled round rest, installed bathroom goods, all plumbing, bathroom not more than 2sq m, bedrooms roughly 9 sq m each, all painting, new doors, etc...coming in at £7k & that includes £1.7k on bathroom suite, tiles & electric shower!

£6k for a small bathroom sounds ridiculous to me! I'm in SE London by the way...found the builders on my builder.com.

Our area is posh, but our house is not. It is old and falling apart and I suspect it would be pulled down and demolished if we were to sell. Plus the work we are getting a quote for is not top of the range, with most fittings in same place as before. I thought it was a bad sign when I noticed that the bathroom fitter arrived in a much smarter car than ours and pulled out his top of the range smart phone to photograph our bathroom.

WHY?
I think this is a strange comment. Would you have more confidence trusting the plumbing in your house to someone who drove a worse car and didn't have a camera on his phone?

Our bathroom cost us about £5k for all the supplies & labour. New bath, sink, toilet & storage unit, LED mirror, extractor, shower & lights. Tiling the floor & walls. We are in Yorkshire.

So far I had 2700 (I was not sure about the builder), 3900 from reputable company (for full tiling, less for partial), 4700 (from general contractors), 4100 (company that did my mum's kitchen), all excluding VAT. (the last two were estimates if we did tile floor tiling and include underfloor heating)

Won't I be throwing away money by hiring any one of them?
The works that need done on 2.25x2m bathroom. Do they seem high?

• strip of all tiling (bathroom is fully tiled) and rip out all units (I'll supply skip myself, as we need skip which has our council's parking permit anyway for home refurbishment)
  
• install new units (just ordinary white stuff, nothing fancy - toilet, sink, acrylic bath - they supply hidden stuff)
  
• screw in glass shield
  
• to set up thermostatic shower from electric shower (the £5000 people said it will be a lot of work, they'd have to add pump - and they were the only people to actually to try water running - the pressure didn't seem that weak to me and I live in rental with powerful thermostatic but they insisted it was not possible without sheer digging up and setting up pump)
  
• change cord switch from inside to normal switch outside bathroom
  
• lowered ceiling with LED lights
  
• drill to set up extractor fan (none there)
  
• tile one side of wall (no tiling around bath as we'll supply bath panels)
  
• undecided on tiles or tongue and groove around the sink& toilet wall (sink and toilet are next to each other)
  
• plaster and paint opposite wall
  
• change plumbing so radiator can be moved to another wall
  
• illuminating mirror
  
• install flooring (vinyl or fake waterproof wood, but unlikely tiles with underfloor heating underneath)
  

So no underfloor heating even.

Lessons learnt - make sure builders try and check the running water?
