Decorating a through-lounge?

Considering buying a house where living room and dining room have been knocked through, leaving an archway between the two rooms. Does anyone have any inspiring pictures to show how this has been styled? I've tried google and Pinterest but my results have been limited. I'm worried ill struggle to make it cosy as the room is so long.

Don't have any pictures, but what we did when we had a split level kitchen / dining in a similar flow was to use the same colour, but painted the kitchen (which got less light) two shades lighter than the dining room with the two shades meeting on the edge of the arch closest to the dining room.

You could also visually break up the length by placing any rugs/tables etc width-ways so they draw the eye out towards the walls as well as along to the other end of the room.

Thanks for the tips - definitely going to do the rugs one! Anything to lessen the extent to which it looks narrow!

I have my sofa across the room to 'split' the room. I think its cosy enough. They are definite areas, living room at one end and dining table at the other. I don't have an archway or anything mine is straight though.

I have to say we hated the archway in our lounge. However it was not expensive to put in a beam just below the ceiling and support it within the wall/and on very small piers. I found this much better than an archway as we felt the second part of the room was like a theatre stage and the archway was some sort of barrier to using that part of the room. We now find we can use the room fully and it is possible to move around because the arch supports of 3ft either side have gone. We have used F and B Pointing throughout and a light oak plank flooring. This also makes the room feel spacious, but it is 15ft wide by 30 ft into the bay window. We have a table in the bay window which looks down our back garden so have changed the use of this space because the piano used to be there. This area is adjacent to the kitchen and we have a 7ft opening and no doors so the area flows.

We love our retro archway!

YY to sofa across the room. We've used similar colours - most of the walls on both sides are neutral but one wall in the living area is very bold (actually it's black!) and we've picked that out with accessories and some bits of furniture on the other side (sounds awful but it looks nice, honest!). I think the two sides need to be linked somehow. Enormous rug in living area helps to mark that out.
