Chancel repair liability insurance

We are in the process of buying a house near a CofE church and I've heard mention of needing chancel repair liability insurance. I'll get a call into the solicitor, but in the meantime, does anyone know anything about this? What would we be paying out, roughly? Any ideas?

We've just moved and we got this. There is some issue over its necessity after (I think) a 2010 change in the law. We thought better safe than sorry and it cost very little. It might have been £60, I can't quite renember. It certainly wasn't more than that.

Worthwhile if you're going to be living on Church Street or something similar. The church have been known to follow through on this and a couple lost their home.

We had this at our old flat. It was very cheap (one-off payment) and meant we were covered IF the Church ever made a claim. It is very rare but as TheresLotsof says above, the stakes are too high to take the risk in my opinion.

Thank you! The house is right next to the church in a semi rural village. A less than £100 payment for peace of mind is no problem. Smile
