Hi, we are relocating and may have whittled our search to a few schools. Does anyone have any children at these schools? I would really appreciate some feedback. Thanks,

Berks - Newbury Barts or Park house, Falklands Primary, Other primaries around Newbury that feed these?

Downs at Compton and Chievely Primary.

Wilts- St johns Marlborough, Great Bedwyn or Kintbury primary / and feeder primaries

Hamps- Testbourne secondary and whitchurch or Overton Primaries.

My partner needs to commute to Newbury so cant be too far away.
Thanks!!

Kintbury has a decent school as far as I know, but think kintbury is catchment area for John o'gaunt school in Hungerford, which I think is ok and due to get investment. Newbury schools are mostly pretty ok. Falkland added a class this reception year so are 90 in a year which means much more likely to get a place, John Rankin infants nearby did the same. Out of catchment may therefore get a place. The other school is St John the Evangekist which can't extend (60 per year) and is oversubscribed as the catchment area is so popular and near to town. I would say those three are all nice schools, reasonable teaching and a fair mix of people although not rough by any means... Not sure what matters to you!

St Bart's was the grammar school and is now an academy (as is park house) but I think that st Bart's trades on it's heritage and a very middle class affluent catchment area. Pretty sure you can't get in if not in catchment. Park house seems to be reasonably respected over time and takes kids from villages to that side of the town so a mix of pupils. It is bigger. I would be happy with either of them. The Downs School has a very rural intake and is very good apparently.

Hope that helps! Tbh I think newbury's worst schools might be considered pretty ok in many places...
