Which survey would you choose?

As title says, which survey would you have carried out, basic valuation, homebuyers survey or full structural?

We're hoping to buy a 1960's dormer bungalow. We understand it was completely refurbished three years ago with new electrics, full renewal of heating system, stairs into loft and two bedrooms & bathroom created upstairs, new windows & new doors inside & out. Have had a good look around at the internal and external walls (which are painted) and can't see any signs of cracks or damp, and also at the insulation in the eaves which is showing no signs of damp from roof. Know there are lots of other things to think about though.

We are in the throes of purchasing a 1950s house and are getting a full structural/building survery because we want to do an extension as well as have a good check of the work that has already been done. I'm not 100% sure if it is the best option, maybe getting a structual engineer would have been better??

A homebuyers survey maybe enough for you especially if all the work has building regs.

I would always go for the best you can afford. You never know.

Homebuyers as it should flag up anything that needs further investigation.

Start with a homebuyers survey. See what it brings up. If it brings up problems get a structural survey done.
