Have just bought a metod grytnas kitchen :)
Including appliances it's come in at £3600 and a further £800 for our builder to fit it.
If we hast had the integrated appliances it would have come in at £2.5k!

What sort of size is your kitchen Badvoc?

Ooh Badvoc, is it fitted yet? I am really keen to know how much usable storage space is in the new drawers but cannot get to a store to find out.......if you should have a spare minute and feel inclined to measure yours I would be eternally grateful. Those skinny drawers look intriguing but I wonder how useful they are for anything other than cutlery.

Any other general feedback?

Ours isn't being fitted til Easter -only because we have had a personlig worktop which has to come from Germany so that's a 4 week wait.
If you have standard worktop you can usually get it delivered within 3-7 days.
Iggy...as soon as it is delivered I will get my measuring tape out! :)
My kitchen is a galley style - but wider than trad galley style iyswim?
I would say 4 m x 3 m.
I am having an integrated f/f, dishwasher, oven and induction hob.
Largish sink (80cms) and sink unit.
Under cupboard extractor fan.
We had the planner come out and measure and I'm glad I did after seeing the HUGE lists of items for each individual cupboard!! It cost £50. They send you an email with a 3d plan of the kitchen which I found helpful.
We also spoke to a chap at ikea when we ordered the kitchen who was very helpful....gave us lots of tips that aren't in the fitting instructions (like drilling a hole in the top of the extractor unit for air flow) and ordering more caps for the interiors.
At our local ikea we needed an appt to order the kitchen...no one told us this! Luckily they could see us within 20 mins but if they were busy it would have been a wasted trip. The chap also recommended buying a bekvam step stool as they are the prefect height for putting up the cupboards! :)

Who is fitting your kitchen? Is it a builder through IKEA or someone local?

Our kitchen is about the same size as yours.

Ah!
Well, we got a bit of a shock there lumpy!
We asked for a quote for fitting from ikea and they quoted....wait for it....£2400!! Shock
So dh and I had a rethink and decided to rip out the old kitchen ourselves (it's going to a local church) and build the units for the builder to fit. He is just charging us a day rate for how many days it takes him. (Approx £800)
Another tip is - if you have an ikea family card make sure they swipe it when you order as it means you are insured against damage when you are fitting the kitchen! :)

Oh My Glob, that's really helpful. You must post pics when you're finished.

I'm ordering mine on Thursday :-)

I will.
I shall also probably post weeping with rage when a cupboard doesn't fit together properly! :)
Which one are you having mrs?

Badvoc, can I please ask you about your sink? What brand and have you seen it in the flesh? I am torn between a very large 70cm single bowl with no drainer or a slightly smaller 50cm sink with drainer.

I want to start planning ready to order later this year but I have researched so much I have too many choices, am driving myself around the bend.

Currently we have the fyndig bowl and drainer which is 60cms and I have to say IMO it's just not big enough :(
We have ordered the 1.5 bowl boholmen sink and drainer which is 80cms.
I love the idea of a single inset bowl with no drainer but the practicalities are such that I need a sink with a drainer (I think most people do tbh)

We're going for Laxerby...interesting about the sink, food for thought

We went to Ikea today to have a look at the new kitchens, and were rather shocked at how plasticky the veneers were. Also, the drawers just seemed flimsy. Sad

A real shame, as the variety of fittings and cupboard widths and sheer "useful stuff" seems far more extensive than what we got in our Howdens plan and H are taking their sweet time about preparing our quote

I wouldn't buy //this apparently everyone is buying it and it will be the avocado bathroom suite and black granite worktop of the future.

I think you are right about needing a drainer. I first read about the huge single bowl sinks on a USA kitchen forum, but they mostly have granite worktops while I have to settle for laminate.

I agree Karen, but it does seem to be everywhere ATM! Really not fond of grey at all.
Change...we had howdens in our last kitchen. Wasn't impressed. Joiners and builders favour it because the carcasses come ready built. I much prefer the ikea stuff.
I have come full circle wrt kitchens tbh.
On our last house we did a Big extension and I thought "right, I am having the kitchen of my dreams" and I got it.
I hated it :(
Solid oak worktop looks amazing but it's so impractical. Ditto Belfast sink. They just don't keep the heat in at all and I am clumsy and smashed loads of stuff
The range cooker was a nightmare to clean and far too big for my needs.
I will always always have stainless still sinks and laminate in future.
Karen is right, the current trend for granite and grey/gloss will date the same way avocado bath suites did.

Mrs....it was between grytnas and laxarby for us!
Sadly our floor is black so we went for the lighter units.

A kitchen has got to be practical. Who cares if it dates, either you like something or you don't. I love shaker kitchens and granite worktops, and yes you definitely need a drainer.

The whole grey thing is odd, if you had said 10 years ago that everyone would be painting their walls grey you would have laughed at them. I love the grey thing but I wouldn't have it myself. All my walls are green so I'm bang off trend. Grin

We're going for the laxerby in white (no way am I brave enough for black!) in saying that I'll see what the designer says on Thursday, I'm nervous about the maintainanceConfused

KarenBrockman · 09/03/2014 09:36

I like the laxerby too.

I have a grey hall, Farrow and Ball Manor House grey, it is lovely. It will be very dated at some point when it is due to be redecorated and covered over then.

I agree get a kitchen you love, just bear in mind it will date for those who can't afford to replace when they come to sell.

Ha! Yes. I have hand made pine furniture in all the bedrooms.
I am such a 70s throw back! :)
I am very unsure about grey. I love black and white though. Monochrome. I do think you can go far wrong with it.
We have gone for a fairly standard white kitchen with integrated appliances as I don't want to look at it in 10 years time and think "gosh, that's so 2014!" :)
One of the main issues with the current kitchen is that it just doesn't work as a kitchen - appliances in odd places, silly cupboards I can't reach, radiator in a mad place...

I have an Abstrakt white and grey kitchen in boxes waiting for me to build it. Not feeling very motivated, but I do love love love the variety of interior fittings you can get. I know you supposedly can't make Metod stuff fit Faktum but I suspect it will be hackable. My Pax wardrobes do all sorts of stuff they shouldn't be able to...

Report
KarenBrockman · 09/03/2014 13:47

What have you made the Pax do that they should not? I got the new narrow Pax hanging rail and it fits in my wardrobe, I am not sure if they changed the Pax carcas or not.
