I've just bought a beautiful chandelier on eBay but just wondered if there will be any issues with wiring? Can any electrician hang them or do I need a specialist?

Anything to do with electrics and I get a pro in !! Not worth the risk of doing it yourself ! ( don't ask Del and Rodney to clean it !!! )

You will probably need to have it rewired which is easy. The biggest problem I have had is that they are usually really heavy so they need to be hung from a joist which isn't always that straightforward.

they are generally hung from a special metal hook that is screwed into the joist above the ceiling. There will be a ceiling rose nearby that the cable comes from. Unlike ordinary lamps they cannot be hung from the rose.

It will be made of metal so it must be earthed. Some older houses do not a proper earth in the lighting circuit. A competent electrician can test and advise.

If it is old or foreign, especially if American, assume that the lampholders and internal wiring need to be replaced.

Thanks that's very helpful, it is heavy and European so may need some rewiring, sounds like a decent electrician should be able to do it
