vinyl fitting costs - are we being taken for a ride?

We're getting a ground floor fitted with moduleo (similar to amtico, karndean, etc). The fitting cost we were given is much higher than I had expected, but I just called another guy for a quote and he laughed at it for being so low and said they must be cowboys. Now I'm really confused and wondered if anyoned had a price I could compare with.
It's 34m2, needs a latex screed because the concrete floor is a mess where the tiles came up. He's quoting £765 for the vinyl, £462 for the latex, £50 for ahdesive and £600 for the labour, total £1,875.
Maybe I live in cloud cuckoo land but I was expecting a total of about £1300. The other guy, who just quoted over the phone based on area size, said about £3,500! We live in London so I know everything gets marked up, but would like to know what anyone else has paid. Confused
Thanks

I'm no expert, but your first quote (for fitting costs) is approx the same per square metre as a quote I had from a reputable flooring shop (not London but not far off in terms of prices).

Hi,

We had Camaro flooring fitted in an area of about 39m2 back in November, including the screed etc. and paid just under £1600 for the lot (Screed & primer £429, vinyl £630, Adhesive £60, fitting £468). We're in the South East. We had quotes for £3500, £2500 and the one we went with.

It took 2 guys 2 days. Well, actually, the screed went down in about an hour on the first day and took 5ish hours to dry. The fitting of the vinyl planks took about 5 hours the next day.

We are pleased with the wooden carpet (as my 3 year old calls it Grin )so it was worth the upheaval and the money.

Hope this helps.

Thanks both, that's such a relief. I hate that carpet people can't just give you a straightforward price and stick to it. It doesn't fill me with confidence in someone's professionalism when they start by lying to you about how much something costs! I'll stick with the first guy.

At £20/hour minimum for 2 fitters that just 2 days of work.

Doesn't sound abnormal to me. Its pretty easy to find out how much the materials cost on the internet.

The latex seems very expensive. I had 15sq m done for 60 just before Christmas.
