Best kind of flooring for bobbly, uneven kitchen floor?

We moved into a house with vinyl on the floor in the kitchen, but it has lots of nicks and cuts in it where things have been dropped I suppose, and is a nightmare to keep clean looking.

The flooring would need to be 270cm by 490cm, to accommodate for doors etc (as the kitchen was an old extension - there is a bobbly bit where the flooring hasn't been levelled off very well between old rooms and extension bit).

We popped into a local flooring store today, who suggested contract vinyl at £25 per metre plus fitting, which as my estimate will mean £500 plus. We really can't justify speeding that amount on that room without a complete overhaul, but by the same token, don't want to spend out on vinyl if it's going to get cut/damaged if things fall on it (as is possible in a kitchen).

Are you planning to overhaul the kitchen? If not I would not put new vinyl down on an uneven floor. I wouldn't have vinyl either, personally.

It would just good money after bad. You need to level the floor and do the job properly or any new flooring will not look great. Keep what you have or do a refurb, in my opinion!
