Sensory room

Hopefully our house purchase will go forward and if so we are going to have a room to make a sensory room for DD 4.5.

I was wondering if anyone else has done one and /or what colour would be good on the walls. We already have a blackout tent and so not going to paint walls black.

Any suggestions would be gratefully received

I would keep at least one wall fairly light and then you can project things onto the wall. Do a Google image or pinterest search of sensory room and it should give you lots of ideas.

Or this

My neighbour two doors down has one. On the wall opposite the window there is a painted mural and on another she has a large tv.

Thanks BoBoo and deste

BoBoo - I couldn't find anything that discussed room colour and it was getting frustrating. DD is very visual and so I think calming colours are the way to go with removable sensory props

it's easy to find if you do a search - for some reason the link won't work ! there's also photo inspiration in there too, again type sensory room into the photo search !
I've designed many children's rooms - but nothing sensory specific like this ! I would suggest contacting a lighting specialist as well and find the colours that your little one finds appealing by looking at different fabrics ( dads t shirt - mums jeans etc ) and incorporating those were possible too ! any stimulation wall could have a blackout lined, soothing colour, curtain that could them be closed over the wall for quiet time !

The sensory room walls where I work are pale blue (calming) but usually the blinds are down and the colour of the room is determined by the lighting.

Thanks so much for the information, really appreciated.

Getting quite excited about doing this part of the new house. Went to IKEA and had a look at the lights, mirrors and furnishings. Disco light and ball chain lights look really good.

I think we may go with a pale blue or lemon, not sure yet as we are going to source some gym mats for the floor and some of the walls so don't want to many clashing colours.

We are intending to put a cheap bubble tube in one corner as well.

Ah I cant wait to get into the new house and do all this and we haven't even exchanged yet! I need to get a grip I think!
