Removing radiators - DIY job?

So the plasterer is coming on Friday, walls are stripped - apart from behind the radiators. How simple is it to take the rads off ourselves, or should we be calling a plumber. We're not much used to DIY but are on a steep learning curve!! anyone done this and can advise us either way

Are the radiators full or drained?

Our plasterer took them off himself and drained them. But, although the valves seemed to work to start with, overnight one of them started dripping, then spraying, (probably because of the temperature dropping) and we had a leak through the ceiling. So invest in 'decorators caps' for the pipes! Easily available (in a few sizes) from screwfix etc.

that's the type of thing that will put me off doing it ourselves!

Taking the radiators off should be easy enough. Close valve off each side of the radiator tightly and then undo the fittings slowly. Make sure you have something to catch the water with(we used an old basin), it's always good to have an old towel around or something just is case you spill some water too. By undoing the fittings slowly it will regulate how quick the water comes out. When putting them back just make sure you bleed them properly and you should have no problems.
