loftladder advice

we have a boarded out loft which the previous occupant had used as a home office. It is a lovely space, but cant be called a room as has to be accessed by a loft ladder. The one we have is metal, quite study, but wouldnt want the dcs using it as no rails at sides, can anyone reccoment a loft ladder that is quite substantial, and as safe as possible

You can get folding wooden ones, which are a bit heavier and feel more solid. If you have high ceilings it will be difficult tp find one long enough. Being heavier they have a spring to help take the weight, but are more difficult to put up and down especially if you are not bing and strong.

They are probably all much the same but mine came from Wickes.

Even aluminium ladders are available with handrails. It is useful to make additional handrails in the loft to help you climb on and off the ladder
