Window safety

Just moved into a new home. It is Victorian with lots of sash windows at a low level at 2nd and third floor level. We are having building work and decoration done whilst living in the Propety.

Yesterday a pest control guy zapping a wasp's best left my son's bedroom window wide open. He knows to yell at the top of his voice if he sees an open window but my 18 month old would not!

I am so anxious about this.

Tomorrow I am going to put notices on every one reminding people to close them. In this heat I do understand.

Even my husband does it and then walks out forgetting to close it. I just get hot rather than risk any accident.

Anyway, we need some horizontal metal bars on the exterior I think. Does anyone know of a company that makes these please. I don't want the vertical prison style ones. Just half sash to stop anyone toppling

Have googled but nothing obvious appearing. We are in Bedford.

Thanks.

We have Victorian sash windows in our house. Rather than add bars we put window stops in, like these ones.

The window can open to let air flow but not enough to let a child's head through.

That's a really good idea- window stops that allow an adult to open in the event of a fire - keeps toddlers safe and to some degree keeps outsiders out if you do forget to close them while you pop out !

Yes I agree with pp, I was going to suggest window stops.
