Is it my imagination, or are loos getting lower?!

Just that, really... Toilet stands seem lower than they used to... I have dodgy knees, and they seem a long way down...

Anyone else noticed that loos are shrinking, or is it just me?!

You can get a thing you can put on top of the toilet to raise it. Maybe buy a nice box from IKEA to disguise it in when not in use.

and with my little short legs I'm pleased!

Thank you! So I'm not going mad after all! Yes, yes, they most definitely are. They'll end up like the ones in nurseries soon.

Ragwort Mon 26-Aug-13 12:05:06

I agree; they are also a lot less 'solid' grin - than they used to be, my DPs have recently moved into a house with an older loo, it is much larger, higher and generally more efficient than modern ones !! New loos don't have enough water to 'flush' through, hence so many blocked toilets these days.

Good new business opportunity for someone I would think (Dragon's Den ? grin).

Haha, I thought I was going mad too! I guess the smaller they are, the cheaper they are to manufacture. hmm I know about the things you can get to raise them - my dad had one. I'm just hoping to delay the day I buy one until after the kids leave home!

grin you know when you read a thread title and you don't know why but you have to take a look? Yup, that's me!

WafflyVersatile Mon 26-Aug-13 12:37:33

Squatting is a healthier posture for pooing. Maybe that's why.

flow4 Mon 26-Aug-13 14:48:32

Then the logical next step, waffly, is for them to do away with loos altogether, and the uk can convert to squatters like most of the rest of the world! But then I'm in real trouble...! grin

WafflyVersatile Mon 26-Aug-13 14:53:02

I wonder what piles and IBS figures are like for squatting countries? hmm

I don't think a sudden swap to squatters would go down very well. They don't appeal to me from what little I've seen on the internets.

WafflyVersatile Mon 26-Aug-13 14:55:09

Oh you can buy them in this country! shock

I simply can't squat, due to arthritis. I'd never be able to poo again!

Lowering the tone on a sunny bank holiday afternoon, that's me! blush

WafflyVersatile Mon 26-Aug-13 15:49:46

you'd have to clamber onto the sink then, in the new world order, flow

flow4 Mon 26-Aug-13 16:14:32

Good to have someone lowering the tone with me, waffly! wink

I'm just visualizing Amazon reviews for the squat toilet ...

WafflyVersatile Mon 26-Aug-13 17:16:09

After using the new Buckingham Palace public toilets I found it very easy to clean the shit and piss off of the foot treads however my dress hem still smells of stale piss even after a machine wash.

FriskyHenderson Mon 26-Aug-13 17:21:45

How do you use squatters in trousers?

WafflyVersatile Mon 26-Aug-13 17:26:58

tuck the hems into your socks and gather the top behind your knees?

I'm not sure what particular logistical difficulty you are envisaging?

mirai may have some insight.

If you WANT to convert your existing toilet to a squatter, just place a wooden box around the base to raise the effective floor level.

There is a humerous article on using a squatter here:
