What do I need to buy for my kitchen?

We are designing a kitchen for our (soon-to-be) new house. We are on a budget but I don't want anything cheap so we are thinking about buying carcasses from Howdens and then cupboard doors from an independent provider like Lark and Larks

The question is, apart from carcasses and cupboard doors what else do I need? Like hinges, how many do I need per cupboard. What else is there?

hi ! how brave of you !

for std 720mm/800mm -900mm high doors and shorter drawerline doors you will need two hinges - dependant on opening restrictions either standard or wider opening (fold back) if possible for best cupboard access
for 1205mm and larger doors you may need three - but not always - dependant on weight of the door !
for anything over 1800mm tall three to four again dependant on weight of door
drawer boxes will need to be the correct size to suit not only the carcase, but suit the style of doors too - ie in frame will need smaller drawers than standard overlay doors

good kitchens would normally have soft closers/ buffers too
then there's Plinths and dust seals, Cornice and Pelmets
Bins, knife racks, cutlery inserts, additional shelving, metal or wooden sorters and supplementary shelving and accessories - Hafele.co.uk is worth a look for anything you can imagine you might want

with handles will need threaded screws long enough for reaching through doors, but on drawers will need to go through drawer box too - so need to be even longer.

you will also need under cabinet lighting and interior lighting, an electrician qualified to work to part P in a domestic kitchen.


if you want to use a free online planner - ikea have one that's easy to use - and their carcases (frames as they call them ) are not bad quality and good prices.

I'm sure Howdens would do all you need? my friend has a scrummy one from them and when the time comes I'm hoping to too, doors and everything! I think it looks v lovely quality :)
