Please help me choose a rug!

Hi, I am hoping someone with better interiors taste than me can help me find a rug to fit in with my decor! We need a rug for the front room, we have dark wood floors and greeney grey walls. Is an old Victorian house. Our sofa is dark green and we also have a dark blue chair, and we have bottle green tiles round the fireplace.

The front room joins on to the playroom which has this Ikea rug. We originally ordered this rug for the front room, which although beautiful just looked really wrong - it fought with the Ikea rug in terms of brightness, and clashed horribly with everything.

So i think we want something a bit more muted. Gah! Any rug/decor experts out there who can advise me what colour/style rug I should look for? What colour(s) would pull dark green, dark blue, bright pink, dark brown, and green/grey together Confused and not look awful?

Thanks in advance to anyone who has read this mammoth post about rugs .

You need a muted stripe. Blue/green/neutral. Like this www.domesticmodern.com/beige-brown-and-blue-striped-rug.aspx
But thinner stripes. Check eBay and amazon. Stripes look amazing next to wood floors.

Thank you HarderToKidnap, I was wondering about stripes. Do you think this one would work, or are the stripes too wide? I initially rejected it thinking the stripes would look bad with the wood floors - see how rubbish I am Confused

Floors are very dark brown wood - would these colours work do you think?

No, it's too pinky red. I think you need to play up the green and blue. Thinner stripes are better. This is my house, we have a thin striped rug which you can see in the pics, I think it looks fab (you may disagree of course!) www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-39463522.html

What about this?

It does look fab, but your room is very neutral and light - ours is more, erm, moody?! Dark floors, quite dark walls, dark sofa and chair, then bright pink patterned rug in next room (and pink toy cupboard as well!). I don't think anything pale will work in our room, but will go hunting for darker more muted stripes, thank you!

Hi BoBoo I don't like the first one you linked to, second one is quite nice but I'm not sure about the yellow in it - and it's too small. I would need 2m x 1.3m minimum size.

The grey blue gaser rug from ikea looked fab on our wood floor too and would pick up the blue in your room nicely. Dog hated it and weed on it tho!

Too much? Do you have a laptop? May sound stupid, but if you can get an enlarged image and then put the laptop on the floor it might help you visualise and see what will/won't work.

Or, on a different note. Obviously I am supposed to be working, which is why I am finding someone else's choice of rug so fascinating.

Grin BoBoo! I like the kilim you linked to at 21:06:56 - that's the sort of thing I have been looking at, but after my dhurrie disaster I am wondering if it's a bit too jazzy? Have you bought from that site before?

Not keen on the blue one sorry. I would ideally like something that ties the green, blue, and pinks together, yet doesn't jar with the dark floors and sober green-grey walls.
