Putting up 1.4m laurel hedge next to the neighbours house wall- am I about to start a fight?

I need some advice, our garden butts right up to the house next door which is a converted stable block (it's white) and the owners have put in small oblong windows above head height.
We were going to put the hedge 1m away from their house wall, are their any legal reasons why we can't?!?
Do they have any rules on bushes??
Am in a quandary and dont want them to hate us but we want to block the ugly wall and give everyone some privacy, as we can peer in and i think they could see us if wanted to. Thanks muchly.

I wouldn't have thought planning would have allowed it even above head height. However, you can grow whatever you like in your garden. It may damage neighbourly relations though. I would speak to them but be aware it might cause neighbourly disharmony!

From your description is sounds like thy might like it! So when you seak to them assume it is good for the too. improving their privacy and giving them something nice to look at.
You can grow anything of any height in your garden.

Oh they didn't get planning for the windows, as they asked me father years and years ago, before we built this house and he foolishly said yes...so right, yeah!

Thanks!
