How many properties did you view before deciding on the one you are currently buying/living in?

I think we looked at 40+ over the space of 2 years or so. We were first time buyers in an area new to both of us and it took us ages to work out what we wanted in a property.

This time around (with the benefit of Rightmove etc) it is far easier to check out properties online and I think we have agreed the sort of house we are looking for. We haven't actually viewed any houses yet, but I'm hoping we don't have to look at 40 to find one we like!

First time we visited the area was also when we viewed the properties.

Feel like I looked at more through hours on rightmove though!

None for the one we're currently in, around 5 till we found the one we're about to move into. We weren't seriously looking either time but browsing Rightmove for months till we booked viewings.

  1. Rightmove makes things a lot easier! When we bought our first house in pre rightmove days we looked at 5 or 6 I think.

Hundreds on Rightmove. Looked at 4 all together, though I only visited 3 of those.

We bought our house without even seeing inside it. We were overseas at the time, knew what that type of house looked like and we knew everything else about the area.

Viewed one or two a year - offered on them all but always lost out to a cash buyer in rented. Managed not to view houses we didn't like but for us the garden is the thing so Google maps is our friend. It took 3 years but hoping to complete this summer after we moved into rented to improve our chances of being taken seriously.

About 10 I think, over about a month or so.

  1. We bought the first one we viewed few years ago and we're still living in it happily.

None. We weren't planning to move as we were going to extend our previous property. However, we had endured months of hideousness with a mini renovation which had gone horribly wrong, and started to get cold feet about launching into major building work. A friend happened upon the perfect house for us on Right Move on a Friday evening, and within a week we had sold our nightmare house and purchased our now lovely home!

Probably 40+. New area, didn't know where to look or what we were looking for.

We viewed two, then bought the one we were living in from our landlady Grin

We looked at about 20, this one was the third or fourth and we came back to it in the end.

In person, only one other.

I had a pretty specific list of criteria (size, location within a small radius of DC's schools, parking, no need for major work etc) so could eliminate most houses based entirely on the Internet listings. I wanted to move fast, I was a cash buyer - this was the first house listing that ticked all the boxes, so I came to view, made an offer & bought it.

About 15 I think. Just when we were getting despondent and starting to think we'd never find one, along popped up our perfect house. Been here two weeks now and so happy.

Looked at tons more on rightmove too. I sort of miss trawling rightmove, in a sick kind of way.

We looked at about 35-40 when we bought our current place (pre rightmove)
We are in the process of buying a new place and this time we've looked at about 20 this time in real life and hundreds on rightmove.
Our search area was a specific 10mile radius (job with distance clause) but encompassed a wide range of places/houses as our main criteria was somewhere that had 4beds & felt right. We are moving from an expensive area to a cheaper one so budget wasn't to much of a worry.

One. This one. We knew what we wanted and in what area. They don't come up for sale that often so we snapped this one up!

around 16, I should think, but we changed area mid-search. 8 in the town where we settled.

2 both times I've bought a house. The one I bought and one other. But lots of research before so I knew exactly what I wanted.

I loooved the first one we viewed but we were defeated by someone who was more willing to throw big money around for overpriced house.

And 6 houses (and after hundreds of hours on rightmove) still no love. Tight school catchments are the problem though :(

  1. Offer rejected on first, sale fell through on second and bought the third.
