Bathroom design

Bought a new house :) but the bathroom needs redone it's a big room (old building) with some nice features but no storage and an ancient shower. Are there any websites where you can put in the fixed bits like doors and windows and have them create something for you. I lack imagination.

I don't think any websites will design it for you. There are probably some where you can put it all the dimensions but to be honest you are better with a bit of graph paper!

Go to a good bathroom showroom and look on www.housetohome.co.uk/bathroom and www.houzz.com/photos/bathroom (more American)

Start to get an idea of the style you want; glamorous, country, modern, warm, Which tiles you like? You will probably find that the layout is fairly determined by positions of windows and soil stack for your loo.

Find one thing you love and base the rest of the room around it, could be a particular basin style for example. We have a large print of a geisha so although the room/tiles are fairly neutral, there are punches of colour picked up from the picture and the blind is a vaguely oriental fabric.

Our family bathroom is in what was once a study with very tall ceilings, fireplace etc. I blocked in the fireplace, using the space to give pipe access for wall taps into the bath which runs across it. There is a raised half wall at the end of the bath which slightly separates the loo, and is hollow from the bath side so you have somewhere to store shampoo bottle and bath toys without them being on show and gives you a top to put the radio on! The alcoves either side have been partially blocked in to give alcoves with spotlights in, one side has a back to wall loo a wooden top hides the cistern, then a 12 gap for books etc and above is a large built in wall cupboard with flush door fronts so it blends with the wall. Very very useful!

Pinterest is fab for inspiration - you can search for phrases like "large bathroom", "bathroom storage", or depending on your taste "modern bathroom" "white bathroom" "vintage bathroom" etc. to get squillions of pictures - then pin the ones that inspire you or look like a layout you could adapt to your own bathroom.

It's how I'm planning mine!
