God I am fed up with the constant tidying and cleaning that goes with house selling :(

We live in my parents large 5 bed house (have been renting it from them for 4 years). They want to sell so are giving us a large lump for a deposit as we were still saving. Yes they are very very generous and I am incredibly grateful. We are in the process of buying our first home thanks to them.

But god the constant demand to keep this house like a show home for the last 3.5 months is taking it's toll on me. It is a big house and I have 2 kids and a 3 day a week job which often spills over into my 2 days off at the moment as the business is in trouble. Getting phonecalls saying 'Can you do a viewing tonight?' are very frequent and stressful but I feel I have to do everything to help my parents sell quickly since they are helping out so much.

ARRRRGGGGHHHH! I just wish this place would sell. Luckily I think the price is now right - my parents put it on at too high a price at first and we had lots of viewings but no offers. The price was dropped last week and we had 8 viewings that week (still no bloody offers yet).

Anyway this is just a rant really. Anyone else pissed off with this?

I have bought and sold three houses and apart from basic cleanliness and tidiness and some effort to touch up poor paintwork, etc, I really never expect to see these bland, chararcterless houses you see on TV. Some of the obsession with removing all signs of human life are OTT.

Ease up, OP. I bet the house is just fine. It's a family house and you are a family: what do people expect? :)

I suppose I don't know what people expect :) I am a terrible perfectionist which doesn't help and my parents are anally retentive about their house being perfect so I always feel like it has to be just so. Also the house is a bit tatty around the edges so I am trying to make it shiny and clean to detract the attention away from the torn bits of wallpaper and worn carpet Grin

I wasn't sure if I could join that thread Terrys as I am not technically selling just helping to sell ;)

This is the listing. That was after the carpets were cleaned and floor shined when it first went on. Looking a bit less perfect now...

Arrgghhh just noticed they have put a pic with DHs bikes on - keep asking them to replace with the one they had previously. Just called to moan at them!

A very nice family house with a beautiful garden. It looks immaculate to me!

It's a beautiful home. I'm with you on the whole cleaning up scenario - it's totally wearing. I didn't feel I could let people view unless I'd done the whole top to bottom cleaning regime. It used to take my two teenage girls literally half an hour to undo all the hard work.
