Where to live in Bristol to commute to Cardiff

Hi

My boyfriend has just been offered a job in Bristol & I'm due to start work in Cardiff about the same time so we're looking for somewhere to live!

My office is in central Cardiff & his is in Warmley. It's cheaper and quicker for me to commute by rail to Cardiff than for him to drive from Cardiff to Bristol so we're looking for somewhere to live in Bristol.

My main requirement is that we are within walking distance of a railway station that has direct trains to Cardiff - we're looking near Bristol Parkway and Filton Abbey Wood. We would like two double bedrooms, parking, and preferably a house but a flat is fine.

We will be renting but saving for a deposit for a house. The absolute maximum we can afford is around 900 pcm but want to pay closer to 700 pcm, ideally.

Any suggestions?

Bradley Stoke would probably be your best bet. It is not everyone's cup of tea but it is a safe, calm, commuter area. Mostly young couples and young families, people tend to move on after a while. It is easy to get into both Bristol and Cardiff from here too.

South Gloucestershire, somewhere like Thornbury or Almondsbury. You'd be near the Almondsbury interchange. Also, maybe somewhere like Filton, Patchway, you'd be close to Parkway station.

But the journey down the ring road to and from Filton/Patchway and Warmley would be an absolute nightmare

Couldn't get much closer to Filton Abbeywood station than this one

Just wanted to say thank you for your help!

I don't think Thornbury or Almondsbury would be suitable for commuting by rail, unfortunately.

We'll look into Bradley Stoke.

Would be grateful for any other suggestions!

We live in bishopston. Great area and whilst it's not walking distance, your 15/20 mins on the bus to parkway and then you can easily get to city centre.

Depends whether you're worried about what to do in the area (ie having cares etc near by) or if proximity to station is number one. If so, filton and Bradley stoke are best.
