Just seen a house there that we like, we currently live in Surrey.

Can you tell me if you know Wendover, what's it like?

thanks!

I live near Wendover. It's a nice place. I think it has a good community vibe.

It has a few shops in the centre; Budgens, a few clothes shops, charity shops, pubs, cafes, restaurants, gift shops, florists, etc. Pretty much everything you need for day to day. Nearby towns are Aylesbury, High Wycombe, Hemel Hempstead (all of which are okay).

Trains run to London Marylebone in one direction and Aylesbury in the other.

There is a large RAF base on the edge of Wendover.

Lots of amazing countryside nearby (which is why we live here) so brilliant for walking, mountain biking, outdoorsy things.

Quite a bit of money around here but noticeably less that Surrey (if that bothers you).

What are you hoping for?

As said above, it is lovely. But, I think parts may be affected by HS2 if it goes ahead, so it is worth checking the route.

I have checked the route and its about half a mile from the house, but I've no idea what this means

It's not this house, is it? I'm not sure I would describe that as Wendover.

HS2 = 250mph trains ploughing through the Chilterns. The route skirts Wendover. Best to do your research. There is a lot of bad feeling about it here.

What's your criteria? Other than £500k for 4 beds.

no, not that house, it's in a road near the town. I don't mind hs2 and the impact as we could then make an informed decision, but it's not even going to be finished for almost 20 years so it seems like an unquantifiable element.

other criteria: good sized garden, good primary school, 3 reception rooms, moon 1600/1700sqft, within 20 mins walk of a train station to London.

It's a lovely little place and the countryside round there is very pretty. Fab chocolate shop too!! Schools are good. It's in a grammar school area but the comprehensive in the town is also pretty good.

Rumseys chocolate shop - a cafe that does amazing food/cakes/chocolates

I'd live there just for that

We drove past the chocolaterie today, it looked lovely Grin

Do you know what HS2 is doing to the area at the moment? I would like to know if you will be able to hear it at the house but can't find out yet

Other places to consider with trains to London...

Great Missenden - bit more expensive, serious HS2 implications, excellent primary

Prestwood - up the hill, possibly slightly cheaper than Wendover, good first school and excellent middle school

Thame - quite a bit further out on the train but good access to M40, small market-type town

Beaconsfield - £££££

Seer Green - £££££

£500k doesn't go very far in the nicer areas around here. Just depends how high your standards are!

I think the housing market has dropped off a cliff since the hs2 route was announced, which might be why you are Shock at the houses you can afford

Thanks for that document deliakate, the impression I am getting is that around Wendover as the route is being constructed under a tunnel, once built the impact should be minimal on Wendover however the construction could cause some disruption in the area.

Do you think that is correct?

No, from the map I links to it shows the tunnel is after wendover. Although check on this link too

deliakate I think that was the old plans, the tunnel starts just before Wendover and ends at the end of the town. You can see the plans here

HS2 is years and years away. Wendover's a lovely place to live, incredible countryside with great London links. Check your school catchments but otherwise go for it!
