Middlesbrough and Easington are horrible my opinion.

They would be AngryFeet, but if entire streets were up for sale then there is potential for that to change. After all, an area is usually considered "crap" as a direct result of the behaviour of the people living there.

Change the people, change the area. Possibly.

I would imagine houses that cheap would be in really crap areas though

Although I expect the agent has either missed out zeros or put it up for sale instead of rent.

Wow! Silly me thinking £9500 was a bargain grin.

I actually think the £1 house idea is a very good way to improve a run-down area, at least in the short term, as the people who buy them will be no doubt putting considerable time, effort & money into refurbishing and then live in the property for 5 years. That should mean that the area is inhabited by people with a real pride in the home they've (almost) built.

I wish I'd known about the Stoke deal when it was going on - that's almost close enough for me to consider!

Can you imagine what would happen if a similar initiative was introduced in London? Stampede anyone?

£1 and they'll lend you £30k as well!

Beat that bugger! grin

They look perfectly ok as well - kind of Brookside-style rather than tumble-down, decrepit Victorian terraces.

There were two houses in Middlesbrough that were being sold with guide prices of 750 and 1000 last year shock.

Sorry that was a weird finance deal though!

Partly from nosey interest and partly from half-term boredom, I have been browsing the internet looking to see just how much money you would need to buy the cheapest 3 bedroomed house anywhere in the UK.

It all started thinking about the "mortgage/rent free dream" & then moved on to "where could we move to to make that happen quicker" grin.

Anyway, this is the lowest price house I have found so far (unless I've missed something, and the price is only for the garage or something).

The only rules are that is has to be a whole house & must have at least 3 bedrooms.
