Flooring for Living Room & Hallway

We have a very limited budget and need to replace the carpets in the house that we are buying.

I had my heart set on engineering wood flooring for the downstairs area but unfortunately that's way out of our budget. What other flooring alternatives are there for the downstairs living areas? I don't want carpets. The only cheap options that I can find is laminate flooring. I'm a bit of a snob & I initially dismissed that.... but now it seems that I'm back to it whether I like it or not!

Can anyone recommend anything else or endorse laminate wood?

Thanks for the info Sparkle. Is karndean vinyl?
I tried to google it but my phone is a bit useless.

Sparkle,

Thank you Thanks . I found a local shop that stocks Karndean. Hopefully I can pop in at the weekend & ahve a chat with them. I'm a bit confused about having vinyl in the living room Confused

not sure if this would be too much but we just bought bamboo flooring from the bamboo flooring company for our lounge and hall

What is your budget per m2? We got our very nice engineered for about £33 m2. There were less expensive options as well. I have also seen some nice laminate, it is much better than it used to be. I got some samples of karndean as everyone on MN seems to love it. I didn't, but could see that it would be very practical and hardwearing. In the end I've gone with a combination of wood, engineered wood, tiles and stone for my floors but I'm a snob a sticker for authentic materials and this is our 'forever' house. My feet will always be freezing though as we couldn't stretch to underfloor heating Grin
