Nomination for the worst Carpetright ever - Guildford

After many months or waiting and days off work hanging around, Carpetright in Guildford have yet to finish carpetting my house. Their fitters caused damage to almost all of the woodwork in our newly-decorated house and chipped staircase/plaster/woodwork down to bare wood in places. Rather than remove a door, they ripped it off the bottom hinge and then left it hanging by the top one. They left glue stains on the walls, yes, they glued parts of the carpet which were cut too short to reach the door bars and grippers properly and they soon came loose again and now we trip over it.

They left staples sticking out of the top step of the stairs which apart from cutting my foot, could have easily made someone fall down the stairs. They left rubbish everywhere including razor blade in the bath where my children almost found it (I hope there aren't any more). Every time they turn up, something goes wrong: first they fited half of the carpets and one was cut too small, then they stretched it and said never to lift it up ever again, then they lost the rest of the carpet, then re-ordered but it was damaged, then re-ordered which was wrong size, then re-ordered and said that they will fit this if it ever arrives but not do anything to rectify all the damage they have caused so far. As they are now months behind and have wasted so much time you would think at a minimum they would offer compensation. They also appeared to have completely estimated the orginal carpet, underlay and gripper size wrongly. Their employees have nothing good to say about the company and the fitters in particular say that they are treated incredibly badly by them and I sympathise a little, but carpetright are such a terrible company, they really do have no idea.

All through this fiasco, I have been speaking to the manager who is hopeless at returning calls, continually lies and arranges for
people to come back to put things right who don't turn up, he changes his policy for dealing with these problems every time we speak in order to delay actually dealing with the issues. His excuses are absolutely laughable, the usual one: "but that's how carpets are normally fitted" (when its clearly not reaching the doorway) is getting tiresome, He has now confirmed that they have again not ordered the right carpet and that Carptetright's official stance is that they will do NOTHING to put right the damage they have caused. When I complain to head office about the service from the store, they refer the complaint to said store...

The Small Claims Court (you can do it all online) may be your best bet here. But thanks for the warning, they are my local branch.

Nice that they have been able to investigate on the basis of the OPs user name! They do realise that they won't get very far phoning the Guildford store and asking for the details of Mrs Biscuits74's order?! grin

Perhaps Guildford have got so few dissatisfied customers that they will easily identify her.

No, I don't think so either.

Gosh that sounds absolutely terrible. I was about to pay for them to re-carpet 60% of my new house. I find their HQ office response appalling!

Thanks for the warning and I hope that they sort out your carpets very soon.

I used Carpetright to lay New vinyl in my bathroom. They did a scrap job - waves and bubbles all over the place.

For scrap read crap.
