Asbestos disposal

Just found some asbestos while house clearing. The nearest specialist tip is quite a long way away & time is short, so I am pondering hiring a contractor to take it. There are only a few sheets. Has anyone done this lately to know very roughly how much it would be? Thanks

If it is asbestos-cement boards, look at your council's website, they will say what to do. Usually avoid breaking or scraping it, dampen to prevent dust, wrap in polythene.

It is the dust and fluffy insulation wool that is most dangerous.

It depends how much there is of it...we had bits of old asbestos roofing patching up our garden fence so organised for asbestos removal man to come and remove it before we moved in (or actually our builder did). There was a fair amount dotted around the edges of our plot (300 foot long) and some was broken up. Cost was £1250. Not sure if this helps or freaks you out. Do not think would be this much if contained and unbroken IYSWIM

OK; I wrapped it up and am taking it to the tip. I wasn't too worried about the cement like stuff as I played in that as a child, so am already doomed. I got round some of the fluffy stuff though which I now think is asbestos before I realised :/ At least I didn't saw and sniff it. Damned stuff. Thanks for the assistance.
