Cost of moving a staircase

Does anyone know approximately how much it would cost to knock down a staircase and re-put in another staircase so its going up in the other direction? Thinking of buying a property and the layout upstairs would be better if this could be done.
I know building regs etc would be needed so it gets signed off properly. Would we need actual permission to make a structural change like this or just building regs after its been done?

Not sure about costs- try a local joinery firm. You will only need permission if the building is listed, otherwise it's just building regulation consent.

it does depend on whether its standard size or not we had one hand made for a period house and it cost about two thousand to take out and be re made. standard sizes are much cheaper half the cost.

Kitty, was that just having a new staircase built or having it built and installed? It sounds like a great price!

it was for removing the old stairscase and having a new one installed ( cut by hand) in the same place by a carpenter (it was a listed building). We did not move the location though.

Did the walls have to be supported while the old one was removed or did it not have walls on either side of it? Sorry, just trying to find out all I can about the process.
