Should we move or not?

We currently live in a great house, in the small ex mining town where both my partner and myself grew up.

For a while we have been looking at properties in smaller villages near by, but my urge to move to a 'pretty' village is getting greater! We have spent a couple of holidays in beautiful locations and driving home my heart sinks when I enter our town.
It could also be because a few weeks ago somebody got murdered in one of the local pubs by a drunken idiot starting trouble. I just thought where on earth are we bringing up our children.

I have a village in mind and we've always said how nice it is, but can we make the move away from family and friends? We would also get less property for our money.

Its approx 15 minutes from where we currently live.

The transport links are great (A1 close by) and my CM business is very transportable and as far as I can see there is no childminder in this location, it may take a while to build up but it did in the town I have lived in practically all my life!

Is village life all it's cracked up to be?

We have two DC's 7 (Year2) & 3 (FS1) so they'd have to cope with a change of school.
Can anyone share their experiences positive or negative about moving from their home town / rough area to a nicer place and leaving all their family behind.

15 MINUTES away? That's not exactly leaving friends and family behind in the 21st century.

you get less house for your money because it is a nicer area. That's how it works.

heart sinking on coming home is not what you want. If the opportunity is there, move!

I know it's not far, but we have family on tap for emergencies. Like poorly kids and the school run.
I am sure we will cope though as many others do.
And I think we will be put on a guilt trip by PIL.

The house thing would be getting the same sort of house for £30k more whereas here our next move would be a detached.

sorry but 15 minutes is still 'on tap'!! envy smile

If your heart sinks when coming home then maybe it is time to move. But just remember bad things can happen anywhere, so if you are moving because of that one incident you might not get to settle anywhere for long!

But I would move (I get bored easily and like a change of scenery...)

I am bored, I want to move anyway.
And it is just one thing I have a yearning for living in a more rural environment.
I hate this town, but love that my Parents and sis and bro are on the doorstep.

But 15 minutes isn't far I know. (sorry!)

It's just the thought of moving to a place where we don't know anybody from a town where we pretty much do or can find out.

then move! You will get to know everyone in time in your new village.
