so, a few months ago we decided to remortgage and take a bit extra to do some home improvements.

our broker searched around and said the skipton was the best deal for us and we duly sent everything they requested off to them P60's, wage slips for both of us, bank statements, passports, - they scrutinised my bank statement and said they did not like the "conduct" of my account.
it was overdrawn so i was told to right it and resend a new bank statement.
so i took out a loan to cover the overdraft.
sent in the new bank statement, the loan was just absorbed into an existing loan so the payment remained roughly the same, just will take another year to pay off.
today the broker rang to say they had received the new statement and sent it to the skipton but they had now decided not to loan to us at all.
we are both in full time work, we have had a mortgage since 1991 and never defaulted on a payment, we have credit cards and loans which we have never defaulted on, our credit rating is good, and we were leaving equity in the house even with the remortgage.

im like Shock

anyway we got a better deal with the woolwich and thats now going through but im ever so slightly aggrieved that they asked me to take my account out of overdraft to then turn around and say they changed their minds!

we desperately wanted to move really, but which ever way we look at it we cannot afford it, so the next best thing is to stay put and get the house absolutely perfect so when we do sell it should command a decent price, it will have been fully renovated inside and out, and extended.
its not a bad house, its just in a town we dont want to be in. we will move eventually but cant do it yet so decided we may as well get it beautiful and enjoy it.

im just slightly Hmm at the skipton for doing that.

We had problems with the Skipton earlier this year: we were putting a BTL on the market when our tenants moved out and, while it was empty, we wanted to go on to interest only. They outright refused even though we have almost 75% equity in the property, excellent credit history, always paid on time etc etc etc. They said they could only consider it if we got into "financial difficulty". We pointed out that making us pay several hundred pounds a month on top of the interest could well shove us into financial difficulties but they just would not listen. I would never use them again.

Not great is it. We had to jump through what I thought was ridiculous hoops for HSBC when we remortgaged two years ago but that takes the biscuit.

Especially given people like us have borrowed sensibly and never defaulted on a payment and other people lied and over borrowed and made a fist of it and we end up getting shafted for it.

im just pissed off in principle really that they dicated to me how to manage the account and then decided it still wasnt good enough.

at least it kicked me up the arse to rid myself of the overdraft....but still.

yes and these people are really the right kind of people to be advocating how to spend our money. I went 14p overdrawn on an account accidentally by using a card with the same pin but the wrong card and I wasn't getting bank statements so I was charged over a period of six months £624 which was then sold to moorcroft as they said they didn't know where I lived Hmm

If I had of left 14p in the account I wonder how much the interest would have been, hmmmm lets think

bloody hell owldady thats terrible! did you get the money back?

im fairly "meh" about it and ive got much much better deal with the Woolwich but i just cant quite comprehend the cheek of them. They originally said they were willing to lend us the same as our current mortgage.....at the same rate....mmmmm lets think about that a moment shall we? wtf would we pay legal fees for just to get the same mortgage at the same rate???

so we said no thanks.
they said get out of overdraft and resubmit the statements and they still turned around and said no....decided now not to lend us anything.

well bollocks to them. their loss.
banks are all bastards. ive decided.

no, they investigated the complaint and credited the moorcroft account with £100 as a 'goodwill gesture'. It's now with the financial ombudsman
