Does anyone have stainless steel kitchen worktops and if so can you tell me about them?

My mother had them fitted in the late 60's - with an integral kitchen sink. They still look lovely, I'd like some myself. She used to polish them with "bar tenders friend" but after years of use they develop a sort of persistant shine.

I had one in last house and am geeting them again for the new one.
They are vitually indestructible , can put hot pans etc on them . You do get a bit of scratching but over time this becomes a patina (honest!)
I wouldn't be doing it again had the last one not turned out to so fab.
