Design trends ...

Hi

Not sure if this is the right board ...

It looks like I will be renovating a house soon (fingers crossed we get it) and am obviously looking around for ideas on kitchens, bathrooms etc.

We don't have a huge budget and I was wondering what the next trends will be. Although I will decorate in a style I like, I don't want to spend money on a style that will be outdated in few years. I am especially thinking of bathrooms and kitchens.

Thanks in advance

Have you had a look at any websites? House To Home has lots of good pics from interiors magazines. There's also Apartment Therapy, although that can be kind of American Hipster-y. And I think there's one that has a lot of Ikea style galleries of European homes but can't remember the name, just Google Ikea home style design kitchen and it should come up.

Have no actual clue about design trends but love looking at pics and getting ideas.

Stuff the trends, just do the house up the way you would like it.

Thanks.

Cagney, yes I have been googling. will try some of your suggestions.

bureni, yes i am with you on that but googling (especially on here and some other forums) has made me aware that some styles have been around for a few years now and I don't want to put in what I have read as the avocado suite!

For bathrooms, I would let the age of the house dictate. Generally, you can't go wrong with simple black floors, a white suite and white walls.

Walk-in showers are trendy, but I don't think they will date, so you would be safe design-wise. I would save colours and bold stuff for accessories that you can change over the years.

Kitchens are a lot more tricky. I think if I have seen it in a magazine, it is already dated. That being said, go for a layout and style that works for you. Go in with the idea that you will probably change it in 10-15 years, so don't go too overboard!

Best of luck!

Thanks Flatbread.

I like the idea of black floors and white walls for bathrooms (what I was thinking). I always liked the bathrooms with the warmish yellow tiles (that look like hotels, sorry not describing it very well!) but remember reading somewhere that they are everywhere and a bit dated now! I also like the round poncy type hand basins. Are they a bit dated too?

Re kitchens, I have seen a renovation of litchen which is similar to our litchen dining room but it's just which type of unit I go for... I am pretty sure I want matt and not gloss (fingerprints!!) but otherwise am a bit clueless. I guess it doesn't matter if it is shaker style or otherwise if it suits the house?
