Subsidence - what are the signs?

I had a viewer at the weekend who apparently, according to the EA, loved my house. However, as they were leaving they noticed some mortar/pointing missing from a brick at the bottom of the house and told the EA that they were worried that the house was "on the move" due to our loft conversion.

I have now repaired the pointing and it looks fine. I'm sure that the house does not have subsidence but it would appear that the "cracking" as they are calling it has scared them off.

The house is detached and was built in 1995. We have lived here for 4 years and the loft conversion is about 2 years old.

Should I be concerned about such a small amount of missing pointing? Were the viewers overreacting or am I missing something?

Are there cracks (especially ones that travel diagonally up the brick courses)? are door frames or window frames out of alignment? Are doors jamming?

Those are the classic signs.

Nope - none of those signs

If your house came initially with nhbc warranty it will have deep foundations and therefore be unlikely to have subsidence.

Sinking or sloping floors are another sign.
