ideas for 1950s style

We live in a 1950s 3-bed semi that desperately needs redecorating. Haven't done anything to it since we moved in. We can't afford Ercol furniture sadly but a bit of 50ish wallpaper might be nice (not keen on massive patterns though).

My attempts at decorating in the past have not been great (think Changing Rooms). So any ideas would be great.

I have the same situation. But not many ideas, sorry!

We've just removed the original bath (beyond repair) and found a packet of Players Weights and a packet of Woodbines behind the panel.

trying to do the same in my house, I have some Sanderson 50s wallpaper in one room, some original things like kitchen cannisters, glasses etc and fabulous sun clock that all belonged to my grandmother. Also a great sideboard for the living room. Nothing too expensive and not too much as I don't want it to be a museum. Look on ebay, www.vintagehomeshow.co.uk/ if one near you, pinterest for ideas also love www.apartmenttherapy.com/. Also have bought a few prints from here www.etsy.com/shop/handz.

Ercol tends to command higher prices but there is plenty more non-Ercol 1950s furniture around at cheaper prices - check out ebay, your local auction house if you have one, local antiques shops.

Thank you for the link to the Vintage Home Show, icapturethecastle - I hadn't heard of it but will definitely be going!

Look on Ebay for G-Plan furniture? There are some amazing bargains there, some people obv have no idea the prices it can fetch and i think it's fab!
