Please can you describe your lounge to me!?

I've run out of inspiration. My lounge is large, pretty square with cream walls, cream curtains, beige/biscuit carpet and a black fireplace. At the moment it's got brown/cream flowery wallpaper just on the chimney breast with the odd brown throw/cushion around, but it needs something to liven it up! I've got a couple of teal vases which are beautiful, but don't really go with anything else in there-I suppose I could add some teal cushions to match them?

Can someone give me some inspiration before I disappear into a beige oblivion!

Have you seen the Houzz website yet? You can search for inspiration using key words and make a folder of all the stuff you like. I am doing my kitchen atm and find it invaluable for getting ideas.

Our lounge isn't so different to yours: nutmeg white walls, black fireplace and ceiling lights. Our flooring is solid oak boards (not laminate) that are dark brown and we have a red sofa. The cream, black and red are picked up in our roman blinds (made by my clever Mum) in a modern floral pattern. It's been like this for 5 years and I still like it. Maybe you could tweak your room by expanding the teal?

Lamps! I think lamps make the most enormous difference to a room. Have ones at different levels, so some table lamps, a standard lamp, maybe an uplighter on the floor.

Teal cushions to go with the vases sounds good. Maybe you could find a fabric which has teal and cream/biscuit or brown colours in it to bring it all together? Teal goes well with brown-y colours IMO.

A rug maybe to break up the carpet?

What colour are your sofas?

Sorry, forgot to describe my lounge. At the moment it's quite bare since we just moved in a few months ago! We have grey/blue walls, cream/beige sofas, white fireplace, dark wood coffee table. We need some more decorative bits and pieces.

Our lounge is small and square with a bay window. We have very pale cream walls and a wooden floor with a very big biscuit coloured rug. The chimney breast has a bold black and white patterned wallpaper, a wooden fireplace surround, a slate hearth and a wood burning stove. On one side of the chimney we have white bookshelves and on the other we have black floating shelves. We also have a large mirror on the chimney and a large piece of black and white art on the opposite wall.

Your room sounds really calm and relaxing. Have you thought about getting some really bold objects to liven it up? We have a really striking, modern vase on our fireplace and a fabulous floor lamp in the corner.

Ours is similar, a rectangle shape with wood floor, cream rug, cream leather corner sofa, oak lamp table and consol table. White corian fireplace. The walls are cream with duck egg blue curtains, cushions. The chimney breast is painted duck egg and the alcoves are papered with cream and blue flowers on. Ice then sling in teal/blue vases etc

Curtains and cushions in brighter colours would make a difference (they don't have to be the same colour or pattern). A really great print/poster for one wall that is professionally framed then frame every other photo or postcard that you have that you like and arrange in little groups. Rug in the same tonal colours as your new curtains/cushions.

Raspberry red will go beautifully. You can get a few samples by just taking home samples of wallpaper....see if it goes....decision made.

I did this & the 2 different wallpaper samples looked so good that I ended up framing t& hanging them.

My lounge is primarily coffee & gold in colour.

24' by 13', french doors at one end .

Stone fireplace with large 'distressed' mirror above.French crystal candelabra (from our hols).

Walls painted in pompadour (Smurf!) blue. Cream curtains. Lots of white and silver framed prints/kids artwork.

Disressed cream 'upcycled' furniture, that DH helped his Dad make when he was a little boy.

Smelly dog in basket.
