Skimmed walls - paint or wallpaper?

We're having our kitchen redone - tiler has been to pull off the wall tiles and is then going to light skim the walls (they're in pretty good condition). But my question is what should we do after? We dont intend to re-tile the walls so can we paint directly on the plastered walls or should we paper first?

If its a good plastering job you can paint straight on.

Let the walls really dry out before painting, and water down the first coat of paint (called a 'mist coat') as it goes on better for new plaster. The proportions of water:paint will be on the back of the tin for the mist coat.

Hoping it'll be a good plastering job!! But the electrician is here putting in new sockets so might need more than a light skim in the end!
Thanks for that hint about the mist coat - didnt know that.

Definitely paint. Lining paper is a pain in the arse and never looks as good. If the plastering is not good enough then you should make them redo it!
