Red patterned wallpaper

We are looking for some red patterned wallpaper for the chimney breast in a desperate bid to inject a bit of colour into our bland living room.

We tried painting it red but it looks bloody awful and is way too much colour.

I have found several that are ok, but none have been 'the one'.

Any ideas/recommendations?

Usually cole and son is my wallpaper porn website, but there wasn't much when I did a search on red.

I love timorous beasties wallpaper but it's ££££.

Could you look through the books in a shop near you? I wasted hours trying to find what I wanted...then walked into my independent local interior design place & had a sample book within 24 hours. It was a no-obligation thing. I wasn't committed to buy from them.

In fact, I took the book home, agreed it with DH, returned book then ordered the wallpaper online as it was half the price.

I personally would also opt for a patterned wallpaper chimney breast with complementing plain wallpaper or paint on the other walls. It is a great way to create a focal point and will not get tired too quickly as it might if you were to wallpaper the whole room with a strongly patterned wallpaper.
Focusing on a chimney breast will also allow you to be a bit more adventurous than you would otherwise dare to be.

I have a red, gold and black pattern on my one wall by harlequin think it was around £35 per roll, looks amazing and very eye catching without it being crass. www.harlequin.uk.com/collections.aspx?ID=1 Mine is part of the Arkona range but not shown on these pages. What I didnt want was floral blocks that looked too samey/too symetrical.

Harlequin are great as lots of patterns co-ordinate even if not in the same book. I used a stone paint for the rest of the walls. I had curtains made of plain fabric and roman blind a different floral and it works!

Red is a nightmare as the shade has to be spot on. You need to go for historical shades. It takes me ages to get the right shade. Red looks warm and works so well with wood and brown leather.
