House sales a new method of human torture...discuss

I swear selling a house should be categorised and recognised as an official tortured method and be banned under some sort of international convention, frowned upon by serious-looking people in the UN, and a hot topic for Human Rights lawyers.

Just exchange already you bunch of procrastinating idiots people... Gah! Confused

Not new, quite well established really. Total nightmare though. Good luck.

Yes, I am in full agreement. Have been tortured with broken chains, bad surveys, and potential 'buyers' who haven't sold, since before pregnant with baby no two. Baby comes in five days! Such fun.

Yes, yes. First our buyers, then our sellers delayed, renegotiated. Just a little bit stressful as I am now 35 weeks pregnant! We have FINALLY exchanged and will be moving a week Monday when I will be 37 weeks GrinHmm

Good luck!

It is completely horrendous and I hope that they next time I do it will be when they move me into a care home. You have my deepest sympathies Smile

We've had a broken chain - which no one thought to tell us about for 2 weeks - found out from above!! Now onto number 2 and decided that this is it. If it doesn't work out we're staying put. Can't bear the stress for a third time.

when we moved I packed and unpacked 3 times. Our sellers decided to ask for another 12000 as we were exchanging (plan was to exchange monday and move friday). My buyer ended up hospitalised after the move finally went through as she went quite nuts, it was the stress of the move and nothing else, it was so traumatic it did her in. I am never moving again.

Yes. Not helped by lying estate agents who keep saying "it is still a buoyant market... you will achieve the asking price...". Nearly tipped me over the edge twice. And when you have sold, you then have to move. Horrendous.

I've also said never moving again after this. It's all the lack of knowing when things are going to happen- getting all excited at a favourable viewing n then nothing it's driving me slightly loopy n I have also developed a Rightmove addiction!!

I had troubling sleeping during our last sale/purchase, I really was begining to think it was something to do with my age, until it all eventually went through. Now I sleep like a baby Grin. It is such a really diabolical system. It should be outlawed.

It's horrendous. We had a hellish 6 months getting here last year and I posted about it a LOT on this board - I realised that I had blanked most of it out when I searched all my old posts and found all the details that I had forgotten. I read a few of them out to DH and he had to ask me to stop. He's not easily bothered by anything but he found it stressful just hearing about it again!

We've been here since December and I'm still angry about the whole process, the incompetence and the distress it caused my family for that time (which felt like forever). I used to finish work and stop the car on the way to get DC to have a little cry.

I have, after 8 months, sold my house. Have exchanged and therefore have to move in less than 2 weeks when the sale completes but have not yet exchanged on the house we are buying...so not sure where I will be moving to in 2 weeks!

It's stressful.

Report
IHeartKingThistle · 25/06/2011 22:06

That's scary. How close are you to exchanging on the one you're buying?

Report
fourstickymitts · 25/06/2011 22:10

Well, we have exchanged but despite asking for a month between exchange and completion have been left with less than 2 weeks to move kids/dh/dogs/rabbits and gibbering (by that point) self 500 odd miles to the opposite end of the country... and dh is abroad for work for one of those weeks. This is all because of buyer procrastination, dumb questions and general faffing around.

Have so far managed to sort out a rental house after epic 1000 mile round trip with bored three year old in tow and 48 hour turnaround. Confused

So, to everyone going through this with me Wine shame they don't have a bar of chocolate emoticon to go with the wine. Hmm

Hey! Well done on exchanging! :) here is light at the end of the tunnel. :)

Ive had brilliant progress with my new agent. A viewing on Sat, 2 booked for today, then a last minute second viewing from the ones who saw it on Sat, & they were there for a long time & took their parents. :)

Everything crossed we get an offer tomorrow. :)

Can I join in please? We were supposed to exchange 2 weeks ago and there is now a big stand off between our buyers and their buyers all over a £45 certificate Confused I am 34 weeks pregnant and we are relocating due to DH's job so if we don't get the house sold we are looking at me up here with 3 preschoolers (one only one month old) and my husband kipping at his parents house during the week and then home at weekends.....Sad It may just tip me over the edge!!!

After a huge amount of unreturned calls (our EA to theirs, our solicitors to theirs) and general up in the air-ness, we have finally said that if we don't exchange by the end of the day on Wednesday then we will put the house back on the market, we can't afford to wait for them to pull their fingers out!

Then we will probably lose our house we want to buy and end up in rented... Its all just pants. Sympathies with everyone in the same position x

Welcome on board! Oh Alliwant, Wine. It's okay, non alcoholic for you. It's crap, isn't it that something so stupid can pull down the whole chain. I feel you pain.

We're moving because of DH job too, and tried to buy instead of renting but gave up. We put an offer in on a house that had been on the market for more than 16 months and had gotton no serious offers. Lo and behold, on the day after we made an offer, another appears. And of course it was higher. There was a couple of other games that went on and we decided to walk away and are moving into rented now.

But, we got the last laugh, because the offer that they accepted is attached to people who haven't (yet) sold there house. We've exchanged, guess they picked the wrong people. So, nah-na-na-nee-na-na! Childish, aren't I. Grin

alliwant, im sure they will pull their fingers out. It always seem to come to this for some reason. :(

LOL fourstickymitts. Surely the agent told them your position? Crazy to go with the other offer.

As for me.. I had an offer of almost 24% under asking price.. Angry Think might start a new thread about it.

Quick update, not yet exchanged but I have been very much assured it is imminent..... all monies are ready even the ftb at the bottom of the chain, it now transpires that even though our buyers house has changed hands 3 times since it was built it's never actually been signed off from the building company! Shock So that appears to be the hold up. Fingers toes and everything crossed it goes through.
sparkle 24%!!!!! That is cheeky!
four I agree, it seems that game playing is the norm.

I did some measuring up today on our potential new home. The current owners were there looking very glum. It transpires they have now BOTH been made redundant and are having to move up country to be back with parents, with 2 small children in tow......Sad I felt so sorry for them, both casualties of NHS cuts.

Also she offered to sell us their conservatory blinds, they cost £900 they want £700!!! The house is absolutely filthy, most carpets are beyond fixing and need replacing, there are knobs missing off the kitchen cupboards, the garden is like a thicket and the blinds are made to measure. I feel that the offer for the house is good and as they are fitted to that exact house they should stay with the house. If they want money for them, I feel that 700 quid is too much! What does anyone else think? We are stretched and now feel we are being squeezed once again... I know they are expensive, but really, what are they going to do with them??
Am I being unreasonable?
