My house never looks great - the best I can hope for is that corners of it look ok Smile

Yesterday I bought two bookcases and moved all the books off my dresser where they had been for two years and I attempted to prettify it up.

I think it's overcluttered and I appear to have lost my 'eye' for arrangement - what do you think? and what can I do to make it better?

Picture on profile.

Yes, it does look over cluttered, it's hard to see exactly what to do with the photo being so small. Do you know how to size it up?

TBH a photo taken at more of a distance would be really handy too...

Much better!

I'd say you need to make it a bit more symmetrical and lose some stuff.

How about

Top shelf: striped plates one at each side, then 2 sets of the cups / saucers / plates that are at the top next to them on each side. The blue vase from the to left in the middle with the two left over blue pieces either side.

Middle shelf: matching crockery from (mainly) third shelf arranged symmetrically, if I'm seeing right there should be enough to fill it)

third shelf: green tile in the middle, two low meatal things (date things?)
on either side, box from second left top in the left corner , box from bottom in the right corner, 4 x different cup & saucer sets, two on each side.

Bottom: just the fruit bowl thing

thats a lovely dresser. some of the stuff is all the one height, eg the cups. You would need some taller things in there too, and some more colour. Or perhaps you are going for a more white look. what about some little baskets in between the crockery, they would break it up a little. have a look at this blog, i sometimes go on. she has some eovely ideas.
gorgeous dresser
