IKEA's Varde free-standing kitchen. Has anyone got it/had it? Any good?

It's the kitchen I most like the look of but is it really a short-term type kitchen until you can afford something else? It is designed to last?

Thanks

We are looking at this kitchen too... God I hate this choosing kitchens thing. Interested in your replies.

Ooo, you replied just as I checked for replies! Yes, me too, boooooring. Just back from Magnets and Wickes and they all look the same and I'm so uninspired and confused.

Not sure on the quality but DP said that he's a seen a couple and the build quality seems to be OK.

However, he did say to be aware that they are designed to be fitted right back against the wall ie. they don't allow for pipes, plumbing, cables etc to run behind them the way 'normal' fitted kitchens do

Oh, thanks for reply. Going to have a proper look today to see if it'd work. I suspect I'll conclude that there's too much wasted space with them Sad

Can you put you own worktops n top, does anyone know? And change teh sink?

Not sure about the Varde specifically, but I think Ikea's cupboards are a different depth to standard so a worktop from elsewhere might not work.

Personally I take one look at the Varde and imagine all the crumbs that will gather under the units.

Saw it and, whilst I still like it and in the right home think it'd be lovely, I'm not sure it's the best use of space for us. If I were skint and had to rip out a really vile kitchen but money was tight, I'd go for it as can sell it on. Or if I had a French holiday home with stone floors/quarry tiled floors, I'd have one.

I have it and love it, very very solid and hardwearing. Downsides, are, its really big, i.e the units are big and theres some wasted space as the cupboards dont go side to side iykwim. hth

I'm really interested in the stainless steel double sink bit - we really want a big "wet area" and this looks perfect for us. But I would mount it on a different cabinet because I want the units to go down to the floor.

I do like the look of it... just wouldn't fit in my tiny kitchen!
