Arctic breeze through the catflap

Last winter we didn't have the cat so I've really noticed the difference in temperature in the kitchen now we have the catflap. It is basically the same as having a gaping hole in the door as the thin plastic door doesn't count for much insulation wise. The kitchen used to be a fairly warm room and now it is freezing cold.

Anyone have the same problem and come up with a solution? I am going to put a massive curtain over the door but this is not the most attractive option and DP is not happy about it.

What type do you have - I have a staywell and I have just stood in front of it and its not actually letting much cold air in.

Is your cat litter trained if so you can lock the cat flap and let the cat use the litter tray.

If he/she is not litter trained then you CAN lock the flap and let the cat out on demand , howver be advised if you take this route you will be standing by an open door going blue with cold whilst puss sniffs round the door frame for five minutes, then put a delicate paw outside all the while meowing loudly then just when you are about the close the door the cat will make a dash outside.

You then wait a few minutes and the cat will come back (still meowing like mad) then you will go and sit back in the warm only to hear plaintive meows yes the cats wants to go out again

Sorry I cant be of more practical help

I'd look into getting a better cat flap. We also have a Staywell with a magnetiv type door closure and I cant feel any cold air comign in around it.
