Replacing Bathroom

Could anyone give me a rough estimate of what they'v paid/think is reasonable for replacing and doing up a large bathroom please?

So: removing old bath/separate shower unit/sink/toilet/bidet

Removing old tiles, re-tiling

Fitting new bath/separate shower/sink/toilet

Replacing flooring

Painting un-tiled sections of wall and ceiling

We're in (not posh bit of) North London.

Yes, about £4 to fit. I am in the process of having mine done (well, starts in 2 weeks), bathroom suite in conservatory at moment but have roadworks right outside my house and cannot get a skip on my drive.

I am having new ceiling, new flooring, new shower cubicle, basin, toilet, bath although in a different layout to what it is currently. Am having shower cubicle tiled to ceiling, rest only half tiled and painted on top.

When I first started looking into having my bathroom done, the highest quote was £13k! I have bought all the fittings, tiles, etc. myself (cost £3K) and have been quoted just under £4K to fit. Just need to buy the flooring.

Ours was £6k inc window refurbishment (sash windows) to gut the bathroom and separate toilet and replace everything. That included VAT, materials, labour, everything. We got the bathroom fittings, tiles, flooring and lights ourselves. Looking back we could have got the builder to use his trade account to buy the fittings.

Do people usually ask the builder to supply suite, tiles etc or buy them themselves?

If the builder, do they show you brochures/catalogues etc so make sure that they supply the correct things?

Our small bathroom cost about £6k, everything included. The labour itself was £3.5K. The room needed gutting (even the ceiling) and we went for fully tiled floor and walls.

We bought the tiles, suite and other fittings ourselves as we found some good deals on the internet. There was a lead time on some stuff so it needed a bit of organising, and our plumber wasn't keen on taking delivery of the stuff and storing it for us.

Recent bathroom fitting for me cost £5K for upstairs small bathroom and new shower room made from cloakroom downstairs. The plumber gave me brochures so I could chose the suite and fittings etc

The only other thing I'd add is that I've never (in having 5 bathrooms done in 10 years) found that a plumber will do the decorating for you. They might arrange for a plasterer mate to come along and skim the walls that need it, but painting will be up to you to arrange.

Onlyaphase, my plumber did the decorating! He arranged the electrician and plasterer as well. Just realising how lucky I am now!

Must book him to do the bathroom downstairs next...

Rose you can look for specific things yourselves then tell the builder to get them if they can via a trade outlet. E.g. brands of tiles/fittings etc.

Just finished our bathroom! We bought all the things ourselves, and shopped around to get good prices. Local plumbers merchants will be your best bet for fittings (tap wastes etc). Someone on Mumsnet recommended 'Tons of Tiles' to me, where I got identical tiles to the Fired Earth ones I love but at a fraction of the price. I can now second that recommendation.
Our plumber arranged plasterer, and an electrician who fitted 4 downlighters and a fan, and wired up the shower.
We had a new bath, sink and loo, and a shower over the bath, plus all the tiling done. We painted the walls ourselves and arranged a separate flooring contractor. Our bathroom is tiny but the labour all mounts up - final bill came to £2500 for labour and about 3500 for all the fittings, including lovely new mirror, and 2 cabinets.
