ive got one.

All army quaters have them as standard - shocking realyl as we are usualyl the last people to get anything!

I have a dual carbon / smoke alarm in the kitchen. I dont think that you are paranoid, they are cheap enough (you can get cheap ones from betterware)
I know somebody who had a leak and it made her very unwell until they realised what the problem was. Transco said she was very lucky that she didn't die! I wouldnt worry straight away as your heating has been checked, but would get one in the near future
