I want some sandals

Everyday and comfy - but trendy (I loathe that word) and chunky - not Mumsy or girlie.

They have to have a back ankle strap - ie., not mule type.

Black I think, though would consider brown.

Something along the lines of these

I can't find a UK stockist for all those styles (I like the fourth ones down). But I'd also like to see some other than DMs (am worried they will be a bit heavy for sandals)

Any ideas for similar styles?

you can get birkenstocks with ankle straps i think.

starlover Mon 06-Jun-05 09:45:59

this place is in UK and does DM's...

I don't think the sandals are particularly heavy.

Blackduck Mon 06-Jun-05 09:47:48

I think the chunky sandles DM do are quite heavy - tried on a slipon pair once and felt like I had lead weigthts on in comparsion to ordinary slip ons...

I bought these

the other day - £30 in Brantano.

THE MOST confortable sandals and I never usually wear sandals cos I have a long walk to school and hate sore feet in the summer but I couldn't bear another summer in trainers!! Look great with jeans, not so great with skirts. In brown or black.

Starlover- thanks for that link, I have been looking for some cream mules for ages and they have some on this website and I have just ordered them.

sorry moo but i don't like them, get yourself a pair of flipflops!

(it's your moderator mate btw under a new name)

Thanks for that link, starlover - there are a few I like on there.

Can't find yours, kbear!

Have two pairs of Birkenstock Madrids, HC, and find them not v. comfy (so much for comfiest shoes in the world).

gaelsgirl (typed your name then and had to delete it!) - I love my flip flops but I can't wear shoes that flat all day - 'cos of my decrepit ankles.

I wore my DM sandals till they literally fell apart. I thought they were quite expensive for sandals £50 from Schuh but I got great wear out of them & I'd buy them again.
They're not the lightest but they hardly felt like lead weghts.

Jbck Tue 07-Jun-05 20:41:49

PS have you tried Raw shoes online they do lots of makes & styles some quite unusual. They have some gorgeous DM one's that I've not seen in a lot of the shops. More Mary Janes style than sandals but lovely. Drooling like Homer over donuts now .

Gobbledigook Tue 07-Jun-05 20:42:54

Ooh, MM you've just reminded me I've got a pair similar to those you linked - they are where the devil are they?

They are heavier than normal flip flops of course but sooooo comfy! A bit wierd to drive in as the soles are so thick. Oh I want them now, what have I done with them...

JoolsToo Tue 07-Jun-05 20:50:53

any good?

grumpymarthamoo Thu 09-Jun-05 10:52:34

Those flowery Birkies are lovely.

I found a pair I really like on the Raw website but they are £70 - too much.

JT - ta, but not what I'm after ("I'll know it when I see it...")

Had a look at Skechers and found some cool ones on a USA website - can't find similar in UK.

Merrill Catalinas, everyone has them, you won't look back. You'll spot them on other people's feet all over the place. Sold widely (got mine at Schuh). Most comfy shoe I've ever worn. £45/pair.

grumpymarthamoo Thu 09-Jun-05 11:02:29

Spookily enough, I had some Merrell surf shoes (clog type things) that were my fave shoes ever - I wore them 'til they (literally) fell off my feet. They don't do them anymore though but I'll have a look for those, thanks zebra.

Blackduck Thu 09-Jun-05 11:05:42

Funny how different peopole's feet are isn't it - I bought a pair of Merrill Cats and they knackered my feet (think I gave them away in Thailand....!) Likewise Birkenstocks - bought a pair last summer cos MN's were going on about them and I find them really hard and unyeilding...

JoolsToo Thu 09-Jun-05 11:08:58

moo - have you seen this site?

zebraZ Thu 09-Jun-05 11:09:29

I had Birkenstocks 20 years ago & hated them, too.
Here's a picture of the Catalinas .
I bought mine after DH bumped into a chap in the park who was also wearing a pair (men's model) & they talked for at least 10 mintues about what wonderful shoes they were, how comfy, etc.
DH is not normally an anorak about shoes.
Where's Throckenholt? She lives in hers.

zebraZ Thu 09-Jun-05 11:12:45

Better pic if you click on "bigger picture" .

bundle Thu 09-Jun-05 11:14:06

there's a slightly less chunky version of those in clarks, i think, part of their bouncy sole range (the name of which escapes me), about £50, they come in a rather fetching pink as well as black.

Satine Thu 09-Jun-05 11:14:41

Ooh, don't like those ones, Zebraz! What about a good old pair of strappy high heels? They might be murder on your feet but at least you look good...
