I need some inspiration for a present for DD, who'll be two next month. Have bought some little things but want to buy something a bit more substantial which she can play with and share with DS, 3. Don't want to get a dolls house yet - that can wait 'til Xmas - but any other ideas welcome.

Got my DD a Tomy Aquadraw for her 2nd birthday, not big or expensive but very popular! Also a toy washing machine (ELC). Reader Rabbit Toddler computer games, she has mastered them all!

Toy kitchen?
Outdoor toys for the garden maybe?
Happy Land - my DD has had these from being about 20 months and at 3yo she adores them still (infact even more so)
Dress up clothes/sets?

Brio? My dd loves this. Also horrible, foul plastic food.

hulababy's ideas good as ever (hello Hula!)
All littlies love the kitchen if you have space. I love outdoor toys for my summer babies, got 2yo ds some pop-up garden toys and 2yo dd a trampoline to share with ds (then 4) which was a big hit. A slide or a sandpit are other good things if you don't already have them.

Hi Clary How are you? Good I hope.

Just been looking round DD's room:

* doll's pushchair (boys enjoy playing with these too)
* anything role play - kitchen, microwave, iron/ironing board, hoover, washing machine, tool set (watch the hammer though!)
* road map and toy cars
* globe (DD loves heres - looking at where we go on holiday, where ffamily live)
* tape measure and torch - DD choose these from ELC with her birthday money
* bricks - something like mega blocks
* art/craft stuff
* easel
* dolls and doll accessories

What is your DD's nature like? Is she girly or not? What type of things does she like to do? Oh, and roughly what budget?

Outdoor toys : sand/water pit; scooter; tricycle; ride on toys; sports equipment (ELC have lots); gardening things; trampoline...

We're buying this a joint present for ds1 (4) and ds2 (2). They have a sand pit already, so this will be used for water play only. I'm buying some aprons too!

hello hula
I'm fine thanks, bit busy at work atm so being a bit sporadic on MN.
I love all your list of suggestions!
Also: my ds2 was 2 last month and we got him a farm plus some animals and some saucepans and play food which all children love.

Thanks for all your suggestions. DD can be quite girly but does march around the house dressed as Bob the Builder fixing things with DS's tools quite a bit! I've look in the ELC catalogue - has anyone bought the smaller kitchen - it's around £30 - is it quite sturdy?
