Double Glazing Cost Query

Hello - DD has one window in her room, with 4 sections - bottom half is larger with 2 sections, and top half is smaller with 2 sections. One of the upper sections has developed a crack in the double glazing (first went cloudy, and then cracked over the holidays).

I had an estimate done by a glass company for replacement, and almost fell over when I saw the cost. They are quoting 429pounds to replace! I have no idea about costs, but that sounds a hell of a lot! Can anyone give me their thoughts?

Sounds about right to me - actually quite reasonable for a one window job.

We had similar quotes last year because all our large double glazed windows have stuck. We decided not to replace them but just put a hammer in each room instead so we could break out in emergency.

Just for one pane? Ridiculous!

I had one (about 24"x12") replaced in french windows and it was about £30.

Or are they quoting to replace the whole window? If so, why?

i think you could get a replacement window for less than that! if you live in OXON/BERKS, i can recommend a good guy who did our house

What kind of company was it? Mine was done by small local glass company, with tiny box ad in Yellow Pages - not national company or double glazing specialists. That might make a difference?
